This week at Park View School, our Word of the Week is FREEDOM.

Freedom is the power to act, speak, or think without unnecessary limits. It helps us make choices, express ourselves, and grow into confident, responsible individuals.

Why FREEDOM matters

Freedom isn’t just about doing what we want — it’s about understanding how our choices affect others. When we use our freedom positively, we help create a school community where everyone feels respected, valued, and safe.

This week we’re focusing on FREEDOM, linked to our mentor time and assembly theme of personal responsibility.

Pupils will explore how freedom shapes their daily lives and how making thoughtful choices strengthens our school values.

We will look at:

• recognising the freedoms we have in school and beyond
• understanding the responsibilities that come with freedom
• how freedom supports creativity, kindness, and positive relationships
• ways to express opinions respectfully
• choosing actions that protect the freedom of others

Malala Day

This week, our mentor time and assembly will focus on Malala Day, a global celebration held each year to honour Malala Yousafzai’s courage, advocacy and commitment to every child’s right to education.

Students will explore Malala’s story, the challenges she faced, and the incredible impact she has had on young people around the world. The session will encourage pupils to reflect on the importance of education, equality and standing up for what is right.

The session will highlight:

• Who Malala Yousafzai is and why Malala Day is celebrated
• The barriers many children still face in accessing education
• The importance of resilience, courage and using your voice
• How young people can make positive change in their own communities
• Ways to learn more about global education rights and advocacy

Our aim is to help pupils understand the significance of Malala’s message, feel inspired by her determination, and recognise the power they each have to make a difference.

This week at Park View School, our Word of the Week is RISK.

Risk is the chance that something harmful or dangerous might happen. Understanding risk helps us make safer choices, think before we act, and recognise when a situation could put us or others in danger.

This week we’re focusing on RISK, linked to our mentor time and assembly theme of water safety. With summer holidays approaching, pupils will explore how to recognise risky situations around water

and make safe choices.

They’ll look at:

• spotting unsafe water environments
• dangers such as cold-water shock and hidden currents
• how to stay safe near rivers, lakes, quarries and the coast
• what to do in an emergency

The Image of the Week is

This week at Park View School, our Word of the Week is DISRUPTION.

A word that helps our pupils understand how their actions affect learning, focus, and the calm, positive environment we work hard to create.

DISRUPTION isn’t always loud or dramatic. It’s often about
small choices that interrupt learning or break concentration.
When our young people avoid disruption, they show maturity, responsibility, and respect for themselves and others. These are the habits that help them grow into thoughtful, considerate members of the school community.

Throughout the week, staff will be recognising pupils who reduce disruption —
whether that’s staying focused in lessons, moving sensibly around school,
or helping others stay on task.

This week at Park View School, our Word of the Week is CAUTION.

A value that plays a vital role in helping our pupils stay safe, make thoughtful choices, and contribute to a calm, positive learning environment.

CAUTION isn’t about holding back. It’s about being aware, being prepared, and choosing wisely. When our young people show caution, they demonstrate maturity, responsibility, and respect for themselves and others. These are the skills that help them grow into confident, considerate members of the community.

Throughout the week, staff will be recognising pupils who show caution in their actions — whether that’s moving sensibly around school, thinking before reacting, or supporting others with care and awareness.
